Suzy Hart was born in Devonshire, England in 1956. She spent her childhood in Montreal, then in South Carolina. Hart is a Life Member of the Art Students’ League of New York, the institution that produced artists such as Georgia O’Keefe and Norman Rockwell. Suzy’s instructor at the League, Frank Mason, a National Academician, himself studied with Vincent Dumond, who studied with Whistler. Hart believes that even though every artist is partially self-taught, learning from masters is essential training for a professional. Hart has a Bachelor’s degree in Sculpture and Art History from Montana State University.
Her work has been exhibited in New York at the National Arts Club as well as the famous J.N. Bartfield Galleries. In 1994 she was sent to Japan to draw portraits in Montana’s sister-state exchange with the Kumamoto province.
The artist currently teaches at the Greenville County Museum of Art in South Carolina and paints portraits by private commission.
